Loc Jewelry for Sisterlocks | Easy Way to Style Your Locs

Adding loc jewelry is one of my favorite ways to elevate my Sisterlocks and give my style a little extra personality. Whether you love cuffs, beads, or simple loc accessories, loc jewelry is the perfect way to style your locs at any stage and show off your loc journey.

I started my Sisterlocks journey on August 7–8, 2022 , and I fell in love with my hair from the very beginning. Watching my locs transform, mature, and grow over time has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

Now I’m three years into my Sisterlocks journey , and I’m still discovering new ways to style my hair and make it feel unique to me.

When I Added Loc Jewelry

I actually started adding loc jewelry about seven months into my loc journey . At that stage my locs were starting to settle and develop their own personality, so adding jewelry felt like the perfect way to enhance my look.

During one of my appointments, my loctician Rasheen Carter added loc jewelry to my hair for the first time. Rasheen provided the jewelry and installed it during my retie appointment. The pieces were purchased from Amazon and included a mix of beads and loop rings.

Even though I already loved my Sisterlocks, adding loc jewelry gave my hair even more personality. It was a small detail that made a big difference in how my locs looked and felt.

Types of Loc Jewelry I Added

The loc jewelry added to my hair included a combination of:

• Decorative loc beads gold and silver

• Loop rings

Mixing different styles of loc jewelry allows you to create a unique look that reflects your personal style. Some people prefer a minimal look with just a few pieces, while others enjoy adding multiple accessories throughout their locs.

What Happened to My Loc Jewelry Over Time

Something interesting happened as time went on some of my original loc jewelry actually started changing colors. Because of that, some of the pieces blend into my hair now and are barely noticeable unless you look closely.

This is completely normal with certain types of jewelry, especially depending on the material used.

Even though some of the pieces faded into my locs, I still love the way they enhanced my hair.

The Confidence Boost of Loc Jewelry

One thing I didn’t expect when I added loc jewelry was how much attention it would get. People stop me all the time asking about my hair and the accessories in my locs.

Adding small details like beads or rings can really enhance your look and make your locs stand out. For me, loc jewelry is a fun way to express personality and confidence through my hairstyle.

It’s also a great way to switch up your style between retie appointments without manipulating your hair too much.

From the moment I scheduled my first boudoir photography session, my emotions were a whirlwind. Excitement, anxiety, fear, anticipation, and even a dash of daring curiosity – all jumbled up in a tempest of feelings, a storm in a teacup. As a plus-size woman, I had always been conscious about my body. Confronting the societal conventions of beauty was not an everyday affair, and now, here I was, preparing to be photographed in intimate attire.

Initially, I did question my decision. “Am I really doing this?” lingered in my mind more than once. But I reminded myself of the reason why I decided to take this journey in the first place - I wanted to celebrate myself. This was about my personal journey, my acceptance, my body love. It was about learning to see myself through a lens of beauty, regardless of societal stereotypes.

My fear was exacerbated when I began shopping for the outfits. The lingerie departments seemed to echo with whispers, "Are you sure you want to do this?" Nervously, I selected a few pieces – some lacy, some satin, a bodysuit, a bustier, a silk robe - each a symbol of the audacious decision I had made.

As the day of the shoot approached, my anxiety began to morph into exhilaration. I arrived at the studio, my heart pounding like a drum in a parade. The makeup artist worked her magic, and for the first time, I saw myself transform into a boudoir goddess. My Sisterlocks fell in soft curls, my eyes sparkled with beautiful eyeshadow, and my lips wore the cutest shade of pink. A rush of confidence seeped in, standing there, looking at the mirror. "I am beautiful," I whispered to my reflection.

The shoot started slowly. I felt awkward and unsure about how to pose or where to look. But as time passed, I began to ease into the process. The photographer gently guided me through each pose, reassuring and complimenting me with every click of the shutter. Before I knew it, I was laughing, being sexy, and striking poses I had never imagined I would.

With every photograph, every gentle direction from the photographer, I felt myself becoming more comfortable in my skin. The room was filled with positivity, empowerment, and a powerful sense of self-love. I was not just posing for photographs; I was challenging my own beliefs, my own inhibitions. I was creating a new narrative for myself - a narrative of self-appreciation and body positivity.

I'll be honest: I've never been a fan of breast tape. The very idea of sticking something to my chest just to achieve a more lifted appearance has always seemed uncomfortable and far-fetched. Despite my skepticism, though, a friend of mine recently raved about an Amazon brand called Cindy's Tape. She convinced me to give it a try and share my experience with you all. So, here I am, chronicling my first foray into the world of breast tape.

I waited four weeks for my first retie and shampoo which came with my install package.

By the fourth and fifth months of sisterlocks, your hair will start to take on a more mature look. Your locks will thicken up even more, and you will start to see more length. Your hair may also begin to take on a wavy or curly pattern, depending on your natural hair texture. It's recommended that you don’t wet your hair often and LEAVE IT ALONE!
